- Abstract
The article discusses a study of the link between epinephrine use before hospital arrival and short- and long-term mortality in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The researchers performed nonrandomized, observational propensity analysis of data concerning the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator use, the characteristics of CPR collected by emergency medical services in Japan from 2005 to 2008. They found that intravenous epinephrine administration before hospital arrival was significantly associated with decreased one-month survival and good functional outcomes.
