- Abstract
The article investigates the trend of racial disparities in the prevalence of pressure ulcer among high-risk, long-term nursing home residents and whether disparities are associated to where residents received care. From 2003-2008, pressure ulcer rates dropped overall. However, black residents of nursing homes demonstrated persistently higher pressure ulcer rates compared with white residents. In 2003, the pressure ulcer rate was 16.8% for black residents versus 11.4% for white residents. In 2008, rate was 14.6% for blacks compared with 9.6% for whites. Such disparity was said to be partly related to the site of nursing home care.
