[Commentary on] The Medical Benefits of Male Circumcision.
- Authors
Tobian, Aaron A. R.; Gray, Ronald H.
- Abstract
The authors examine the medical benefits of male circumcision in the U.S. Based on three African studies, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) acquisition in men is reduced by adult circumcision by 51% to 60%. They mention higher incidence of viral sexually transmitted infections (STI) among disadvantaged minority populations in the U.S. with the lowest rates of circumcision. They emphasize the need to provide evidence-based information on the risks and benefits of male circumcision to parents.
