- Abstract
The article discusses a study which systematically evaluated the evidence on the accuracy of bedside instruments in diagnosing the presence of delirium in adults. The authors analyzed references of retrieved articles, data from MEDLINE from 1950 to May 2010 and EMBASE from 1980 to May 2010 to identify research on delirium among in-patients. Study findings support the use of the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) and suggest that the choice of instrument may be dictated by the amount of time available and the discipline of the examiner.
