- Title
The Geopolitics of Amazônia in Souza's Fiction.
- Authors
Beebee, Thomas O.
- Abstract
This article discusses the depiction of Brazilian identity in the works of author Márco Gonçalves Bentes de Souza. The author notes how characters in Souza's books are often foreign characters attempting to control territory in Brazil and discusses how national territorial control relates to nationalism as represented in geopolitical theories of authors such as Golbery Do Couto e Silva. He comments on how Souza has depicted the Amazon region as a center of capitalism and imperialism in books such as "Galvez, Imperador do Acre" and "Mad Maria."
