- Abstract
This article deals with the production of modern glass sculptures using techniques of pouring hot glass into an open mould, and kilncasting in the mould. The history of the production of modern kiln-cast sculptures is connected with the names of two Czech artists Jaroslava Brychtová and Stanislav Libenský. Introducing the technique of kilncasting into glassmaking schools and the teaching of S. Libenský at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague drew the attention of many artists to this type of work. As the interest grew, the production technology developed and improved. The part of the text dealing with technology briefly describes the technique of pouring hot glass into the open mould. Kiln-casting in the mould is described in more detail, including making of the model and the mould, firing, cold-working and surface finishing. At the end, the most frequent types of damage and the limits and possibilities of restoration are presented.
