The aim of this paper is to summarize typical forms of degradation that are characteristic of the technique of direct collodion positive on canvas - pannotype. It is based, in addition to the study of period manuals and contemporary scholarly articles, on a detailed visual examination of twenty-one examples of this historic photographic technique, which was carried out in the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The article describes the forms of degradation of the support, i.e. black impregnated canvas, and subsequently of the photographic image itself, consisting of a collodion layer with reduced silver microparticles, namely in relation to the problematic steps of the technological process of production. The degradation of the original framing and the issue of newly made framing and its influence on the current condition of photographs are also mentioned.
