Abstract

Drug abuse is a growing problem in India. Drugs derived from the Cannabis sativa plant are the most commonly abused among the Indian youth for recreational purposes. Preparations of Cannabis are banned in India because it contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a highly potent chemical compound due to its addictive nature. The present research was conducted to study the seasonal and geographical variations in THC present in the leaves of the plant. The chemical profiles of THC generated for the different geographical sites as well as different seasons will be of immense use in Forensic investigations relating to the assignment of the origin to any seized Cannabis product.
