Title

THE CASS REVIEW: A GAME CHANGER IN GENDER MEDICINE.

Authors

McTavish, James

Abstract

The article explores the controversy surrounding the Catholic Church's stance on gender issues, particularly in relation to a recent document called Dignitas infinita. Critics argue that the document fails to consider the experiences of transgender individuals and relies on outdated theology. However, the article highlights The Cass Review, a report commissioned by the National Health Service in England, which supports a more holistic approach to gender transitioning and criticizes the use of puberty blockers without sufficient evidence of positive outcomes. The article also raises concerns about the potential dangers of solely adopting a gender-affirmative approach to the diagnosis and treatment of gender dysphoria, such as overlooking other mental health issues and funneling young people with same-sex attraction into gender-changing treatments. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of evidence-based care and the need for legitimate debate on these complex issues.
