Title

Pregnancy and Sexual Abuse: Opening a Dialogue

Authors

Scott-Bennett, Johanna

Abstract

Pregnancy is a significant, emotional life event that may elicit unwanted memories and behaviour patterns. This is especially true for survivors of sexual abuse, who may have post traumatic stress (PTSD) or other mental health issues. This article shows the need for the identification and strategies for facilitating communication between survivors and midwives, allowing midwives to feel properly prepared for these discussions, and improving outcomes for these women.
