- Authors
Parvathamma, Ravinandan Adavappa; Maheswari, Eswaran
- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and the potential consequences of misinterpreting them. It highlights the issue of prescribing cascades, where new medications are prescribed to treat ADRs, leading to increased treatment costs and the development of multiple drug-related problems. The article emphasizes the need for healthcare professionals to be educated on the identification, detection, and management of ADRs to minimize the incidence of prescribing cascades. The authors call for regulatory authorities and healthcare education boards to incorporate the topic of prescribing cascades into their programs to promote rational drug therapy, particularly among elderly patients.
