INDICADORES DE PAISAGEM DA BACIA DO RIO IRAÍ NA REGIÃO METROPOLITANA DE CURITIBA, PR.

This study aimed to characterize the landscape of Iraí River hydrographic basin through metric landscape indicators. The Iraí River hydrographic basin is located in metropolitan region of Curitiba (capital of Paraná State) and covers an area of 11,178 hectares in the municipalities of Pinhais, Piraquara, Quatro Barras, Campina Grande do Sul and Colombo. The land cover mapping of the basin, made in the year 2000, with the scale of 1:20,000, was used to calculate edge metrics, area, shape, central area and clumpiness. The coverage with grassland, together with the other two classes of natural vegetation, arboreal and shrub, represent 68,9% of the soil coverage, while the classes associated mainly to the anthropic transformations of the soil coverage amount to 31,1%. The grassland presented as a matrix, due the dominance of area and greater connectivity. The natural tree cover was significant and appeared well maintained, with an area of 1,886 hectares in remaining forest over 100 ha, showing favorable for the conservation of rare and endangered species that require larger areas. With the description of landscape metric indicators, it was possible to compare the patterns of land cover classes and provide a source of information for decision makers and for environmental monitoring of the hydrographic basin, and for defining more specific researches.
