- Abstract
Objective: The study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Questionnaire on Food Sustainability Knowledge and Attitudes to Sustainable Eating whose original language is English, and adapt it to Turkish. Material and Methods: 384 participants aged 20 and over participated in the study. Three translators independently translated the questionnaire into Turkish using the translate-reverse approach. Opinions were taken from 10 expert dietitians in order to evaluate its applicability to society in terms of semantic, cultural, and understandability. A pilot research was carried out using a sample of 40 participants to assess the comprehensibility of the questionnaire. The original version of this questionnaire does not include any sub-dimensions and comprises a total of 33 items. Results: Of the individuals participating in the study, 52.6% were female and 47.4% were male, and the average age of all individuals was found to be 37.8±11.33 years. According to the results of the Kaiser-Meier-Olkin (KMO) test, it was determined that the sample size was sufficient (KMO=0.876) and according to the results of the Bartlett sphericity test, there was a sufficient relationship between the items for factor analysis (χ2=6096.4; p<0.001). With explanatory factor analysis, it was determined that the Questionnaire on Food Sustainability Knowledge and Attitudes to Sustainable Eating was grouped under four factors (dimensions) and the total variance ratio explained by the factors regarding the questionnaire was 60.4%. The results of double confirmatory factor analysis showed that the questionnaire met the validity condition in adapting it to Turkish and that the questionnaire was applicable. It was observed that the reliability value of the questionnaire was high, with Cronbach's alpha (a=0.90) internal consistency coefficient. The results of internal consistency coefficient obtained from test-retest data considering the time factor also showed that the survey had a good level of reliability. Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was determined that the Questionnaire on Food Sustainability Knowledge and Attitudes to Sustainable Eating is a valid and reliable tool in assessing individuals' sustainable nutrition knowledge levels and attitudes.
