- Abstract
The present study was carried out to assess the socio-economic status of trap fishers of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Information was collected through a well-structured interview schedule. A total of 120 fishermen were selected randomly for interview. The study revealed that 50% of trap fishermen belonged to middle age group 36-50 yrs and the highest percentage 33.33% of trap fishermen were found to be illiterate. Most of the fishermen are engaged in trap fishing but having lack knowledge about collapsible traps that is reflected by the weighted mean index. The fishermen showed interest and were keen to introduce collapsible traps to improve the fish-catching rate.
