Abstract

The article discusses a study which found that the cumulative analgesic effect of repeated electroacupuncture involves synaptic remodeling in the hippocampal CA3 region in ovariectomized rats with chronic constriction injury (CCI)-induced neuropathic pain on the sciatic nerve. Analysis revealed that electroacupuncture decreases pain reaction after CCI and reduces synaptic cleft width between hippocampal neurons. It increased post-synaptic density and active zone length in hippocampal neurons.
