Abstract: This article warns about severe stress facing nurses and caregivers in caring for patients. It highlights a secondary traumatic stress reaction caused by helping or desiring to help a person suffering from traumatic events. It suggests to promote self-care, improve patient outcomes and enhance therapeutic relationships to prevent stress among caregivers and nurses.
