Abstract

The CO2 absorption performance in aqueous blends of monoethanolamine (MEA)—1-dimethylamino-2-propanol (DMA2P) and piperazine (PZ)—DMA2P was investigated using a bench-scale tray column under atmospheric pressure. The removal efficiency of CO2 (ηCO2) and the overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient (KGav) in DMA2P-MEA and DMA2P-PZ solutions were determined at 313.2 K. The simulated flue gas was composed of 15% (mole fraction) CO2 and 85% N2. The effects of inlet gas flow rate (G), absorbent composition (w), inlet liquid flow rate (L), and plate number (NP) on ηCO2 and KGav were demonstrated. Our results showed that the absorption of CO2 in DMA2P aqueous solution can be accelerated by the addition of MEA/PZ in a tray column, and both ηCO2 and KGav can be significantly improved.
