Antibiotic Use and Antimicrobial Resistance: A Global Public Health Crisis.

The article discusses the global public health crisis of antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance. The misuse and overuse of antibiotics have led to the emergence and spread of resistant microorganisms, compromising the effectiveness of current treatments. The indiscriminate use of antibiotics in human medicine, veterinary practices, and agriculture is a key driver of antimicrobial resistance. The impact of inappropriate antibiotic use is exacerbated by the lack of education and awareness among healthcare professionals and the general public. Antimicrobial-resistant infections cause approximately 1.27 million deaths annually and impose a significant economic burden. Addressing antimicrobial resistance requires a multifaceted approach, including regulating antibiotic use, investing in research and development for new drugs, and implementing global educational programs.
