Abstract

Uncontrolled hyperglycemia can cause impairments in several organs such as pancreas, liver, and kidneys. Previous studies in this domain have demonstrated that black rice bran (BRB) extract improves renal function in hyperglycemic rats. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to determine the synergistic effect of BRB extract enriched 3-Cyanidine and glibenclamide (GLI) on decreasing glucose levels and protecting impairments in renal, hepatic, and pancreatic cells. The study was carried out on hyperglycemic rats induced by alloxan 150 mg/Kg BW intraperitoneally. To this end, a total number of 25 rats were divided into five groups: (I) normal control (C), (II) 150 mg/kgbw alloxan (A), and treatment groups; (III) 5 mg/kgbw GLI (G), (IV) 50 mg/kgbw BRB (B), and (V) 5 mg/kgbw GLI and 50 mg/kgbw BRB (G-B). The treatments were given for 10 days and the results showed that both BRB and GLI-BRB combination were able to reduce blood glucose levels back to normal status (<150 mg/dL) and repair pancreatic, hepatic, and renal cells through increasing the number of normal cells.
