Abstract

Since the end of the 19th century, management has been discussed as a discipline, along with the functions of personnel management comprising different phases. With Hawthorne's studies since the 1924, the role of human emotional aspects in productivity gain has also been considered. With this understanding, independent personnel departments started to emerge in business organizations. In the 1980s, personnel management transformed to "human resources management" (HRM) based on the assumption that humans could be considered resources. Two decades after that, by the 2000s emerged some ideas stating that it is not appropriate to name people to be resources. With the argument that humans are company assets and not merely resources, it has been suggested that the term "human assets" be used instead of "human resources." At present, eight organizations in Turkey have adopted this term. In this article, it has been examined how employees of interest-free banks approached HR practices from the asset-resource perspective. The main hypothesis of the research is that employees with high perception of "human assets" would have high perception of "human resources" related to the practice. The survey method was used as a data collection tool. Among a survey of 500 individuals, it has been obtained 351 valid responses. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 22 program.
