Abstract

The article highlights a study on the association between circulating CD34 cell levels and plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels, a marker of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, in older patients with type 2 diabetes. It was found that reduced circulating CD34 cell numbers are significantly associated with plasma BNP concentration and LV mass index (LVMI) in these patients. The results suggest that lower number of these cells may be involved in LV hypertrophy.
