Excessive Internet use -- addiction disorder or not?

Abstract

The article attempts to define whether excessive Internet use can be considered a form of addiction. It enumerates the diagnostic criteria for defining Internet addiction such as the occurrence of tolerance, abstinence symptoms and offline addiction. The two distinct types of Internet addiction are discussed, namely specific and generalized. Also cited are the two main tasks present in empirical attempts to try to define Internet addiction.
