- Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to explore the existing images of both students and teachers towards the vocational high school as a school concept. For this purpose, students attending vocational high school and teachers working in this type of school were reached and the concepts they produced for vocational high school were analyzed. In order to see if there were any changes in the students' perceptions at the first year and the last grade of the school, the opinions of the students in the 9th and 12th grades were taken. According to this, there is no obvious change in the metaphoric perceptions of the students in the first and last years of the students, and the images that emerged mostly consist of prison, coffee house, arena and zoo. It has been observed that the metaphorical perceptions of the students towards the vocational high school are generally negative. Among the teachers who received opinions, those who were in the seniority of 1-5 years produced positive metaphors, and those who were 5 and above, had revealed more negative concepts about their schools. In general, it is understood that the school factor functions as a means of oppression in the eyes of students and teachers. The production of a concrete picture of the school, and the emergence of existing feelings and ideas about educational activities and the learning environment, will also determine the content of school plans. In this respect, it is suggested that the metaphorical perceptions of the students and teachers regarding the school should be determined not only in the vocational high school but also in every school type at the beginning and the end of year.
