Abstract

The present investigation determined the presence of endo- and ectoparasites in creole pigs from the Atapos community, province of Chimborazo, considering the socio-economic conditions of the population and sanitary management. The 30 Creole pigs, including females and males, were considered using the finite population formula; The survey used closed questions to avoid determining factors of confusion and error; In the coproparasitic analysis, the flotation method was used, in terms of counting gastrointestinal parasites, the McMaster chamber, and for the identification of parasites, the Baerman method. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics: mean, maximum and minimum values and standard deviation. The survey determines that the socioeconomic conditions of the community are low, its agricultural development is stopped in ethnoveterinary practices, therefore the breeding and production of creole pigs takes place in backyards intended for self-consumption and household sustenance. Regarding the presence of gastrointestinal parasites, 7 genders were observed, such as: most frequently Strongyloides ransomi 26.7%; followed by Eimeria sp 20%; Necator americanus and Trichostrongylus axei 16.7%; Ascaris suum 10%; Trichuris suis 6.7% and Cryptosporidium sp 3.3%. No lung parasites were found. The external parasites found in greatest quantity were Ctenocephalides 50%, then Haematopinus 46.70% and Sarcoptes 3.3%. Therefore, it is recommended to implement health programs and training to improve productive rates that boost the economy of the community in general.
