The article considers the health effect of wearing corsets. In his book "Über die Wirkungen der Schnürbrüste/On the Effects of the Corset," Samuel Thomas von Sömmerring claimed that the back-laced corset constituted a health hazard by compressing the ribs and other internal organs.
