- Abstract
In this experiment, five types of poplar wood strands with different widths were mixed in different proportions to manufacture OSB according to a conventional OSB production process. The effects of different strand width combinations on the heat conduction, water absorption, thickness expansion rate, and linear expansion rate of the board were studied. The relationship between heat conduction and modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), internal bonding strength (IB), and barometric pressure were also explored. The results showed that the heat conduction and dimensional stability of OSB were significantly affected by different widths and different proportions of strands. The heat conduction was correlated with IB, but not with MOR, MOE, and barometric pressure. This study revealed the influence mechanism of strand width combination on heat conduction and sheet dimensional stability during OSB preparation, which provided data for further improving the quality of OSB products, improving resource utilization, reducing the carbon footprint of wood-based panel production and production costs. It also provided reference for optimizing the OSB production process with other tree species.
