This research was carried out to examine empirical studies on academic Turkish. A total of 217 empirical studies, including 90 articles, 78 theses, 34 papers, and 15 book chapters were found on the subject. Data was collected by document analysis method and content analysis technique was used to analyse them. The data obtained from the analysis of the studies were presented across three broad themes, namely, (1) contexts and participants, (2) research foci, (3) research methodology and data sources. The results show that there are three topics on which most studies have been carried out: Features of the academic discourse, instruction and evaluation of academic Turkish textbooks. It has been seen that the studies mostly use texts as data sources, prefer qualitative methods, focus on writing in terms of language skills, and are carried out in the context of teaching Turkish as a foreign language rather than teaching Turkish as a mother tongue. It is thought that these results will help relevant researchers become more familiar with the field, be informed about current research trends and make informed decisions about the topics that need to be researched.
