- Abstract
This study was prepared to examine the ethical aspects of gift-giving behaviors in schools according to the teachers' views. This is a qualitative study using a phenomenological approach. The study group of the research consists of a total of 40 volunteer teachers working in pre-school, primary, secondary and high schools in İlkadım district of Samsun province during the 2022-2023 academic year. A semi-structured interview form was used as data collection instrument including five questions like "Do you receive gifts? How do you evaluate gift-giving behavior? What kind of gifts are within acceptable limits? Do you have your own criteria for gifts from students? If yes, what is it? Do you have your own criteria for gifts from parents? If yes, what is it? What is the reflection of gift-giving on human relations? How do you evaluate this in terms of teachers? The data were analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. It was revealed that most of the teachers are of the opinion that gift-giving behavior strengthens human relations; gifts with sentimental value, including manual labor rather than material value, can be especially received; the acceptability of gift-giving behavior in the dimension of receiving gifts from parents is negative.
