The general goal of this study was to analyse the coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games conducted by the press office of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), verifying possible convergences and divergences in the numeric distribution of publications and forms of portrayals of male and female athletes. The specific goals were: to identify the newsworthiness criteria of the publications; to analyse the narratives about the athletes; to verify the distribution of publications and images between genres. We collected the articles published on the CPB website from September 1 to 24, 2016 and performed a quantitativequalitative analysis of the data. The main news criterion was "results/victories", which was more associated to men than women. Athletes had less visibility and prominence in texts and images. Ensuring a higher quality presence for athletes in press coverage is essential for legitimizing women's parasports.
