Title

Heterochromatin: A Rapidly Evolving Species Barrier.

Authors

Hughes, Stacie E.; Hawley, R. Scott

Abstract

The article discusses the characteristic life processes and the biological significance of heterochromatin. It mentions that heterochromatin is gene poor, comprised of arrays of highly repetitive simple sequences and enriched at the centromers and telomers of chromosomes. It notes that this region of chromosomes plays a significant role in mediating recombination during meiosis and in the global control of gene regulation. In addition, it segregates chromosomes during mitosis.
