- Abstract
The experiment was conducted to study the effects of nano-selenium on the growth performance and meat quality of AA broilers. A total of 480 one-day-old AA broilers were randomly divided into three groups, with each group having eight replicates and each replicate consisting of 20 broilers. The control group was supplemented with 0.4 mg/kg sodium selenite in the basal diet, while the experimental group 1 was supplemented with 0.3 mg/kg nano-selenium, and the experimental group 2 was supplemented with 0.5 mg/kg nano-selenium. The trial lasted for 42 days. The results showed that at 22 to 42 days of age, compared with the control group, the average daily feed intake of broilers in the group 1 and group 2 significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the feed-to-gain ratio of the group 2 significantly decreased (P<0.05). The meat redness (a* value) of the group 2 significantly increased (P<0.05), and the shear force of the pectoral muscle in the group 1 and group 2 significantly decreased (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the pectoral muscle of the group 2 broilers significantly increased (P<0.05), and the activity of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) in the pectoral muscle of broilers in the group 1 and group 2 significantly increased (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in the pectoral muscle of broilers in the group 2 significantly decreased (P<0.05), the expression of quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) in the pectoral muscle was significantly increased (P<0.05), the expression of glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO1) in the pectoral muscle of broilers in the group 1 and group 2 significantly increased (P<0.05). The study indicates that the addition of nano-selenium in the diet can improve the antioxidant capacity of the muscle and the meat quality of AA broilers, with the 0.5 mg/kg supplementation showing superior effects.
