Abstract

This article discusses various failures throughout the history of mass media. The use of dissolves as transitions between individual shots in motion pictures directed by filmmaker Georges Méliès was rejected by other filmmakers and the effect was eliminated from many of his films by exhibitors. The poor critical and commercial reception of the motion picture "Park Row," directed by filmmaker Samuel Fuller, is discussed. The depiction of feminism in the television program "The Bionic Woman," which was canceled due to a strike by television writers, is commented on.
