Abstract

The article explores the role of interpreters in healthcare settings, focusing on a specific encounter between an interpreter and a mother in the cardiothoracic unit. The interpreter facilitated communication between the mother and healthcare providers, showing cultural sensitivity and emotional support throughout the difficult situation. The narrative highlights the importance of professional ethics for interpreters, as well as the need for healthcare providers to recognize and respect cultural differences in communication. The article emphasizes the emotional toll that interpreters may experience when witnessing patients and families dealing with challenging medical situations.
