Abstract

The article "Don't Mute the Messenger" discusses the unique challenges faced by Spanish interpreters who also work as medical providers. The author shares personal experiences of interpreting traumatic news and the emotional toll it takes on them. The article highlights the importance of setting boundaries, providing pre- and post-session measures, and ensuring proper interpretation to improve patient care and outcomes, especially for Spanish-speaking patients. The author advocates for better integration of interpreters into healthcare systems to ensure patient autonomy and effective communication.
