Abstract

The article discusses the challenges faced by medical interpreters in Oregon, highlighting issues such as low pay, lack of enforcement of laws protecting patients' rights to interpreting services, and limited access to competent interpreters. The interpreter-author advocates for systemic changes to improve language justice, including forming a union, advocating for legislative changes, and addressing structural barriers in the interpreting profession. The article emphasizes the importance of ensuring access to quality interpreting services for patients and calls for collaboration among stakeholders to address these issues and advance health equity.
