Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The objective of this article is to set out and analyse the development of the teacher training plan in Catalonia, taking as the core of its analysis the legal models issued published in the last few decades. The paper reviews the teacher education frame work plans enacted from 1989 to the present and analyses in detail the changes that have taken place in some of the most important aspects of teachers' life long education. METHOD. We have used a qualitative approach in our research and our fundamental data collection strategy has been the documentary analysis of the legal models mentioned and of other additional documents. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The results of this study are aimed at resituating the legal models in the educational and social contexts in which they were enacted, at the same time as showing the common and differing points between them, along with an account of changes and development in own teacher education. The findings of our research reveal a high level of interest in teachers' lifelong training across Catalonia, evident in the profusion of work which exists in the field. At the same time, our study identifies those problematic features which currently require a preferential attention.
