Authors

Gorman, Michael F.

Abstract

The special issue on field-based education in the INFORMS Transactions on Education journal explores the value of practical experiences for students of operations research/management science. The articles discuss challenges faced by instructors in implementing field training, share best practices, and highlight the benefits of experiential learning. The research presented emphasizes the importance of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application in academic programs. The findings suggest that field-based education offers significant returns for students, faculty, and industry partners, and can enhance the skills and preparedness of graduates for the workplace.
