Abstract

Objective: To conduct quality assessment and content analysis of clinical practice guidelines related to dementia care from January 2016 to October 2021. Methods: Systematic research of guidelines for dementia care from international guideline websites, websites of academic societies or institutions, and electronic databases was conducted. The quality of the guidelines were evaluated according to AGREE E and JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for text and opinion papers in Australia. Results: A total of eight clinical practice guidelines were included, among them, five were evidence-based guidelines, including two A-level recommendations, one B-level recommendation and two C-level non-recommendations. And the other three were expert consensuses. The recommendations for dementia care in the six included high-quality guidelines were summarized into 17 themes, which were humanist care principles, ethical and legal issues, health care services access, advance care plan, comprehensive nursing plan, transition, cognitive function maintenance, self-care ability maintenance, mental behavior symptoms of dementia(BPSD), management of symptoms, body health maintenance, information and support for patients, caregivers, caregiver training support, end-stage management, environmental debugging, family, caregivers and social assessment of the elderly with dementia, safety management. Conclusion: The quality of practical guidelines for dementia care and management is uneven at home and abroad, and there is still a lack of high-quality evidence-based guidelines for dementia care in China.
