Nonorganic Feeding Disorders in Hospitalized Infants.

Abstract

Nine hospitalized infants with feeding disorders and nine hospitalized infants without feeding disorders were assessed on admission and discharge utilizing the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, descriptive checklists for mother and nurse, and a Feeding Observation of the mother and infant together On the Bayley Mental Development Index, infants with feeding disorders improved while comparison infants declined Infants with feeding disorders also improved on the Feeding Observation Mothers' descriptions of their children did not distinguish between groups or change over time, however, nurses' descriptions of infants with feeding disorders and their mothers (initially similar in both groups) were significantly more negative at discharge.
