Abstract

The article focuses on the adoption of online social networks by public health groups and professionals. The American Public Health Association (APHA) offered learning session about Web 2.0 resources at its 2009 conference held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has created a MySpace page for youth with mental illnesses. Professor Enrico Coiera has led an Australian online project dubbed as Healthy.Me where users can manage their healthcare information, schedule and treatments.
