Abstract

Testot remarks that his French book was initially criticised as "so pessimistic" (p. 388). However, Testot's grander timescale allows for a greater understanding of the human history he wants to chronicle. The book provides the reader with current concepts and studies from environmental history and adjacent fields and offers several fascinating excursions into political and global history.
