Title

Beyond Melamine: More Reasons Not to Use Animal Milk in Infant Feeding.

Authors

Greiner, Ted

Abstract

The author reflects on more reasons, besides melamine, not to use animal milk in infant feeding. He notes the failure of governments worldwide to take necessary steps to protect, support and promote breastfeeding. He stresses that little attention was given to the problem in China where it was found out that melamine was commonly added to milk. Also noted is the decision of the World Health Organization (WHO) to reverse its guidance on the use of home-modified animal milk as a breast milk substitute for infants with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
