Abstract: The article presents the perspectives of a surgeon general on walking for older adults. He discusses the multiple benefits of walking, barriers that may exist in walking, particularly for older adults, and creative approaches of many communities around the U.S. to encouraging walking, including Harlem Hospital Center in New York City and the Massachusetts Association of Councils on Aging.
