Abstract

The article presents the studies conducted by Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island about the increasing shortage of scientists being trained by the educational system of the U.S. One of the research project is a summer science program which is designed for students in secondary schools who have shown outstanding ability and high scholastic achievement in mathematics and science, supported by funds from the National Science Foundation. Another research involves an experimental summer program for academically able but underachieving secondary school students.
