- Abstract
This article discusses the use of definition, risk factors, and management of hypoglycemia by UK anesthesiologists. It highlights the importance of fasting before surgery to reduce the risk of aspiration, while also maintaining normal blood glucose levels. The article mentions the lack of consensus on the definition of hypoglycemia and the factors that increase the risk of hypoglycemia in children. A survey of UK pediatric anesthesiologists revealed a wide variation in practice regarding the threshold for hypoglycemia and its management. The survey results will inform a future multicenter study aiming to establish clear recommendations for the diagnosis and management of hypoglycemia in children undergoing surgery.
