Intravenous lipid emulsion: Why wait to save a life?

The author offers observations on the issue of lipid-based resuscitation. He recalls two patients, one having liposuction and one who attempted suicide, both of whom went into cardiac arrest. He explains how a nutritional supplement turned into an antidote for lipophilic drug overdose. He discusses cases of successful resuscitation from severe non-local anaesthetic toxicity and argues that more research is needed on the subject.
