Abstract

In this article, the author discusses a study regarding the determination of risk factors associated with the bacterial contamination of platelets in the U.S. He mentions that blood components get contaminated by micro organism with the increased risk of bacterial overgrowth. He also reports that the use of improved platelets transfusion therapy led to a marked reduction in fatalities.
