Title

Pediatric anesthesia – potential risks and their assessment: part I.

Authors

VON UNGERN-STERNBERG, BRITTA S.; HABRE, WALID

Abstract

The article discusses the potential risks and assessments of pediatric anesthesia. The authors reflect that thorough preoperative assessment and preparation could decrease the incidence of perioperative morbidity. They enumerate potential risks including risks in relation to cardiac arrests, asthma, upper respiratory tract infection, and obstructive sleep apnea. They suggest that preoperative preparation must be made to optimize the fitness of a child for anesthesia and surgery.
