- Abstract
This section provides information on upcoming symposiums related to weed research as of February 1988. The EWRS International Symposium, to be held in Wageningen, Netherlands in September, will explore the effects of various factors on the activity and/or selectivity of herbicides and will attempt conclusions concerning the optimal use of herbicides. About 90 papers have been offered on these and other such topics including: tolerance, resistance, metabolism, targets of action, uptake, transport in soil and plants, adjuvants, safeners, synergists and extenders. The impact of recent developments in bio- and gene-technology on herbicide resistance in crop plants and on weed control will be discussed. Provisional topics for the The 8th International Symposium in Weed Biology, Ecology and Systematics, to be held in Dijon, France, from September 14-16, 1988, include: weed seed banks in arable soils and effect of environmental factors on germination; biology of perennial weeds; biological and ecological characteristics and dynamics of the weed populations; typology, ecology and evolution of the weed communities; competition and allelopathy between weeds and crops; biological control and other techniques of weed control.
