Title: Call for improved research efforts on clinical procedures in endodontics.

Abstract: The author focuses on the need of improved research in endodontic retreatment methods. The author discusses the findings of a report by the governmental agency Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment (SBU) related to the shortcomings the diagnostic and treatment procedures for dental pulp diseases. The author discusses several areas that require investigations including survival of root filled teeth, failing of canal treatments and factors leading to loss of root-filled teeth.
